Our local mission is to make U of M students and greater Ann Arbor communities aware of safe sex practices as well as how to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and get local access to treatment.
We volunteer with local HIV clinics like HARC in Ypsilanti, get trained with the MDCH as HIV Test Counselors, shadow physicians at the UM Hospital, have Q & A's with experts in related fields, travel to the annual UAID Symposium during MLK weekend (talk to us about presenting your research!), get certified in medical Spanish, get published in the UAID Health Beat Journal, and even get involved with planning your own event that you are passionate about! We also have leadership positions open!
In the past we have traveled to Panama, China, Uganda, Sierra Leone, and Brazil to provide the aforementioned services. This summer we plan to travel to Haiti and China. On these trips, students can get hands on rapid testing experience, form professional relationships with clinics we visit, get experience interacting with and counseling locals, and don't forget - form bonds with other students and have fun!
